Purgatory, anything goes- Devon Cody

In this place we're all thieves
Sinning in some way, faking innocence, pretending we can't see
That the darkness has grown fingers, and there's eyes under the bed
You close your eyes so tightly, and you can hear the sickness in your head

It's singing
WE all give in sometimes
Oh let me take your coat
Make your self at home
It's only purgatory, don't worry baby, anything goes.

You're smile's dismal
You keep them guessing with your stare
You talk in questions
And wonder if they'll even care
To Beg you sweetly when their taking all they can
To Beg you softly before you take them to their end

And all this time you were waiting to take the spotlight
They told you beauty can be natural, but fame, well that comes with a price
And we're all acting like we can't see the blood on your hands
WE hear the darkness laughing
And you know this means we're all probably damned

It's singing
WE all give in sometimes
Oh let me take your coat
Make your self at home
It's only purgatory, don't worry baby, anything goes.

You keep me dreaming with that look in your eyes
You keep on scheming, but you say you got nothing to hide
I've kept some secrets safe in my heart, about the truth, but I keep on playing my part
Who would defy you, or dare to face the darkness, we all pretend isn't there

It's singing
WE all give in sometimes
Oh let me take your coat
Make your self at home
It's only purgatory, don't worry baby anything goes.

Frozen Creek- Circa Survive

Upon a pebble driveway
There sits a house
And it’s the loneliest place
I haven't spent much time there,
It wasn't allowed,
It just didn't feel right

‘Cause it’s all built upon a burial ground,
It just doesn't feel right,
It just doesn’t feel right

On top the frozen creek,
I would love to take you there
And swear it flows through me
On top the frozen creek

If I open both of my eyes,
I still see an empty space, so empty
But if I keep them closed
Then there's still a chance that something is out there

‘Cause it’s all built upon a burial ground,
It just doesn't feel right
It just doesn’t feel right

On top the frozen creek,
I would love to take you there
And swear it flows through me
On top the frozen creek

I made a promise to you long ago
I’d do the best that I can
I’d try and keep it
I made a promise to you long ago
That I’d do anything to keep this home

On top the frozen creek,
I would love to take you there
And swear it flows through me
On top of the frozen creek

I would love to take you there

Devon- Bryan LaRiviere-Crane

Devon
Looks like heaven
Out of ten
she's eleven
she's so beautiful
in my eyes and His
she sways to the music
as if she gets in to it

Devon
makes me laugh
but also makes me sad
she doesn't realize
how beautiful she lives her life

Everything in your life thus far
helped make you the person you are
thank God for everything in your life
cause I don't want an other Devon saying Goodnight

Molly Smiles- Uptown Girls

I Don't care if you're contagious- Pierce the Veil

Bury me in the bedroom where I,
I can sing you to sleep all night.
Put me next to the open window,
promise me a second time.
'Cause I don't want to leave without you buried by my side.
I'd rather kill the one responsible for falling stars at night,
'cause they fall all around me.
The night can be deadly.

And they'll never take us alive.
(Can you chase away the darkness?)
To live in love and die.
Last night she recited every reason she's fine.
So if we're heading there together at the same time,
you sing while I drive.

Move like a fugitive tonight.
Dance on the ambulance,
'cause I would rather spend my life
vacations in bed with you like drunken summer kites.
And this is only a test,
sober and scaring me to death.

They'll never take us alive.
(Can you chase away the darkness?)
To live in love and die.

And I don't care if you're sick,
I don't care if you're contagious.
I would kiss you even if you were dead.
Would somebody make me go blind for the rest of my life?
'Cause I'd do anything to hold your hand.
And I don't care if you're sick,
I don't care if you're contagious.
Oh, no.
Would somebody make me go blind for the rest of my life?
'Cause I'd do anything, anything, anything.

They'll never take us alive,
'cause I'll chase away the darkness.
I'll live in love and die.
I joined the party for the recently blind.
So if we're heading there together you can sing all night.

I'm gonna tear out the thread one by one from your skin
'till your bones feel embarrassed by all the attention.
Kiss me while I drive.

Grief

I can not shut out Grief
He hangs over my head
I can not put him in a box
Because he becomes like the monsters under my bed.
Nor can I pretend he isn't there
I feel his ache in every shallow breath I take
I can't not tune his out with songs
I can hear him in the back ground as he sings along
I suppose I should just let him stay
He's made himself quite at home
I guess even with grief dwelling here
It's better than being alone
Confrontation does not always lead to the alleviation of pressure,
Which builds in time with exponential measure,
and without check, rage will catalyst all that was free into captivity,
Which until recently held me close to heart,
and rage attacked jealousy because their bind is so strong,
That without part, where one is the other is soon to be,
Jealousy's blind, and unable to be free,
Leads to the devastation of everything held dear to me
I hate change the most,
But I find that I am always longing for bigger and better things,
And the ability to move on,
So I recognize that great things come through powerful change.
Sometimes we rely more on our experiences than on the scripture. Which has everything we need and it cuts all the way to the marrow in our bones.
When you see revenge as being your only hope to get over something, than you are not free
Where is the farthest place that you can hide something?
It's as deep in your heart as you can go, the place that you deny exists.
It's the place that all your wounds fester,
The place that you've hidden so well that even you forget it exists.
Now realize that it's only arms length from the Lord's touch.
As soon as you lower you hands, and let him in, it can be healed.
How do you "find" God if he's not hiding?
If the world hates you for following in the foot steps of Jesus,
Keep in mind that the world hated Jesus first for following his Father.
If I can't wish them well then I'm waiting for them to get punished,
We carry debts that people "owe", but it's our luggage that get's heavier,
You are free from being the judge of the world, it was never your responsibility to carry,
Forgiveness is an action, it's something that we do
Love is the risk that you take when you say that you'll make everything ok,
Promises making, and breaking them,
You say "Naturally it's all the same."
Twists lead to turns, and abrupt stops might burn
But honestly who are we to say,
What's right,
What should be,
Or deny each other the chance to be free,
Even if it comes with its own chains
As i'm sowing back the seams,
I'll pick some new and better dreams
Walk the roads I didn't dare to travel down before,
I never saw the point in adventuring, when you're alone it always feels like there should be more,
I have a taste for victory, and have placed my stakes in self discovery,
And I feel like for now alone, will feel like more
Now it's time for picking up the pieces of what you threw to the ground,
And your gluing back the old picture, but leaving out the new parts that you found,
And you give it back like a present, but it's what you broke
So it's expected that you mend it.
The night lights keep the shadows in their places,
The darkened corners always look like scary faces,
Their voices still creep in,
Only wanting you to dwell on every way you've sinned.

The Sick Rose- William Blake

O Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

When I was one and twenty- A. E. Housman

WHEN I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
‘Give crowns and pounds and guineas
  But not your heart away;
Give pearls away and rubies
  But keep your fancy free.’
But I was one-and-twenty,
No use to talk to me.
When I was one-and-twenty
  I heard him say again,
‘The heart out of the bosom
  Was never given in vain;
’Tis paid with sighs a plenty
  And sold for endless rue.’
And I am two-and-twenty,
And oh, ’tis true, ’tis true.

Broken Feet- Courtney Marie Andrews

I wanna show you love
But that's impossible
When all I know is lust
So I've been misused
Now I'm defective
But just like you
I kick the door in
I kept it a secret
That no one let me tell
But I suppose I'm content here
In my little shell

Sparrow- Basia Bulat

I'd give away my wooden ears
help you teach your frozen lips to speak

you have not stolen here
but you can hardly sleep
the horns and shells you've gathered here
one day the one you battle might be me
blackbird, go lost
i will bring her back to you in spring
she won't change at all
let your sparrow fall to what might be

and when you've done your howling
and done with everything
if she is gone for months again
will you still say you watch for sparrow wings

Hold on Hold on- Neko Case

The most tender place in my heart is for strangers
I know it's unkind
But my own kind is much too dangerous

Arms of a Thief- Iron and Wine

Mr. Henry and the muscle man, yeah
With shoes on a night there was no road to stand
Like a letter in a stolen purse
She was bored of her weight, she was bored of her words
The daughter of a soldier told the fallen priest
"That's a cold, cold place in the arms of a thief"
And reaching out to touch the steering wheel
She said, "Leave me alone but just don't leave me here, all right?"
Aye, all right

Mr. Henry and another guy gave her gold
On a night that it fell from the sky
And like a body when the buzzard came
She was bored of her look, she was bored of her name
The daughter of a lawyer told the fallen priest
"That's a cold, cold place in the arms of a thief"
And tapping at the air with her heel
She said, "Leave me alone but just don't leave me here, all right?"
Aye, all right

Mr. Henry was a dying man with a vice
And a tongue that she didn't understand
Like the water when the sea got rough
She was bored with the breeze, she was bored of her luck
The winner and the loser told the fallen priest
"That's a cold, cold place in the arms of a thief"
And holding everything he made her steal
She said, "Leave me alone but just don't leave me here, all right?"
Aye, all right

Album of the Year- The Goodlife

She took me to her mother's house outside of town where the stars hang down
She said she'd never seen someone so lost
I said I'd never felt so found
And so I kissed me on the cheek
And so she kissed me on the mouth.
She said
" Space is not just a place for a star, I give you an inch you want a house with a yard."

Faster- Rachel Yamagata

Can't talk to you
You think I'm lost inside my mind
You're like and old tattoo
and I know you'll fade in time
I'm not the girl you think you know
I'm not the girl you've waited for
I'm not the one for you
Why don't you let me be?
Cus I'm a million miles away
Why don't you set me free
you don't treat me like you say
I won't tuck you in one last time
I'm takin' back what is mine for me
I belong to me
I'm going faster
you're going backwards
You're going to miss me when I'm gone
I hang from the ceiling
I feel what I'm feeling
I should've been feeling it all along
That's the last black eye
I hope I ever give to you
Yeah I had a good time
But what's a girl supposed to do
Take the pictures off the wall
They don't look like us at all
They don't look like friends
I've got new things to begin

You Remind Me of Something- Bonnie Prince Billy

You remind me of something the song that I am
And you sing me back into myself
and my mother is a good one as they go
She does not condone the actions that I do that she don't know
She swears nightly before resting that I give her soul and testing
When I sing the song that does not end.

This Tornado Loves You- Neko Case

I have waited with a glacier's patience
Smashed every transformer in every trailer
Til nothing was standing 65 miles wide
Still you are nowhere, nowhere inside
Come out to meet me, Run out to meet me
Come into the light
I miss the way you'd sigh yourself to sleep
When I'd rake the spring time across your sheets
My love I am an owl on the sil in the evening
But morning finds you still warm and breathing
This tornado loves you, what will make you believe me?

Maybe Sparrow- Neko Case

Maybe Sparrow you should wait
The hawks are alive til morning
You'll never pass beyond the gate
If you don't head my warning
It's a drowning drive back to the chorus
Oh my sparrow it's too late
Your body's limp beneath my feet
Your dusty eyes as cold as clay
They didn't hear my warning
Maybe sparrow

So Long- Ingrid Michaelson

You've made me into someone who should not hold a loaded gun,
and now you sit upon my chest, knock out my wind, knock out my best.
So long to no disasters, and mornings too,
so long to ever afters, so long to you

Once Upon A December- Anastasia

Dancing bears
Painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a december
Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses rance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully across my memory...

Imperfect Tense- Frank Turner

It's not a pretty sight,
but to say in my defense,
I wasn't perfect tense,
used to have such balance but I don't know where it went,
so would you be my present sense.

Young Folks- Peter Bjorn and John

If I told you things I did before,
told you how I used to be,
Would you go along with someone like me?

Girl and The Sea- The Presets

Tonight the...
Tonight the hills are watching her as she runs towards the sea.
Yeah, she runs so she'll be free.
And of all the friends and enemies she's made along the way,
They are nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves.

And he's the one that you've seen sometimes on tv,
And his shirt is on the ground while he's tackled by police.
And the parcel that he throws across the bridge into the creek,
It'll flow towards the sea, it will meet with her tomorrow.

No place, sometime.
We'll clear our eyes.
And when you're down,
I'll come around.

And all the places that she's been along the way.
Flames are licking at their walls. night glows with their remains.
From far away the animals come gather round to see.
But she knows not how they feel and she knows not what it means.

When she was young we'd ask her what she'd like to be.
And she'd close her eyes and dream...
Now we're nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves.

Her place i've found,
Could be all ours.
I've seen where you,
Would rather be.

You thought I was that type- Anna Akhmatova

You thought I was that type:
That you could forget me,
And that I'd plead and weep
And throw myself under the hooves of a bay mare,

Or that I'd ask the sorcerers
For some magic potion made from roots and send you a terrible gift:
My precious perfumed handkerchief.

Damn you! I will not grant your cursed soul
Vicarious tears or a single glance.

And I swear to you by the garden of the angels,
I swear by the miracle-working icon,
And by the fire and smoke of our nights:
I will never come back to you.

I can wade Grief- Emily Dickinson

I can wade Grief --
Whole Pools of it --
I'm used to that --
But the least push of Joy
Breaks up my feet --
And I tip -- drunken --
Let no Pebble -- smile --
'Twas the New Liquor --
That was all!

Power is only Pain --
Stranded, thro' Discipline,
Till Weights -- will hang --
Give Balm -- to Giants --
And they'll wilt, like Men --
Give Himmaleh --
They'll Carry -- Him!

Willow- Anna Akhmatova

And I grew up in patterned tranquillity,
In the cool nursery of the young century.
And the voice of man was not dear to me,
But the voice of the wind I could understand.
But best of all the silver willow.
And obligingly, it lived
With me all my life; it's weeping branches
Fanned my insomnia with dreams.
And strange!--I outlived it.
There the stump stands; with strange voices
Other willows are conversing
Under our, under those skies.
And I am silent...As if a brother had died.

Lot's Wife- Anna Akhmatova

And the just man trailed God's shining agent,
over a black mountain, in his giant track,
while a restless voice kept harrying his woman:
"It's not too late, you can still look back

at the red towers of your native Sodom,
the square where once you sang, the spinning-shed,
at the empty windows set in the tall house
where sons and daughters blessed your marriage-bed."

A single glance: a sudden dart of pain
stitching her eyes before she made a sound . . .
Her body flaked into transparent salt,
and her swift legs rooted to the ground.

Who will grieve for this woman? Does she not seem
too insignificant for our concern?
Yet in my heart I never will deny her,
who suffered death because she chose to turn.

The Sorrow Of Love- William Butler Yeats

The brawling of a sparrow in the eaves,
The brilliant moon and all the milky sky,
And all that famous harmony of leaves,
Had blotted out man's image and his cry.

A girl arose that had red mournful lips
And seemed the greatness of the world in tears,
Doomed like Odysseus and the labouring ships
And proud as Priam murdered with his peers;

Arose, and on the instant clamorous eaves,
A climbing moon upon an empty sky,
And all that lamentation of the leaves,
Could but compose man's image and his cry.

To Delia: On Her Endeavouring To Conceal Her Grief At Parting- William Cowper

Ah! wherefore should my weeping maid suppress
Those gentle signs of undissembled woe?
When from soft love proceeds the deep distress,
Ah, why forbid the willing tears to flow?

Since for my sake each dear translucent drop
Breaks forth, best witness of thy truth sincere,
My lips should drink the precious mixture up,
And, ere it falls, receive the trembling tear.

Trust me, these symptoms of thy faithful heart,
In absence shall my dearest hope sustain;
Delia! since such thy sorrow that we part,
Such when we meet thy joy shall be again.

Hard is that heart, and unsubdued by love,
That feels no pain, nor ever heaves a sigh;
Such hearts the fiercest passions only prove,
Or freeze in cold insensibility.

Oh! then indulge thy grief, nor fear to tell
The gentle source from whence thy sorrows flow,
Nor think it weakness when we love to feel,
Nor think it weakness what we feel to show.

If grief for grief can touch thee- Emily Bronte

If grief for grief can touch thee,
If answering woe for woe,
If any truth can melt thee
Come to me now!

I cannot be more lonely,
More drear I cannot be!
My worn heart beats so wildly
'Twill break for thee--

And when the world despises--
When Heaven repels my prayer--
Will not mine angel comfort?
Mine idol hear?

Yes, by the tears I'm poured,
By all my hours of pain
O I shall surely win thee,
Beloved, again!

Sonnet 42: That thou hast her, it is not all my grief- William Shakespeare

That thou hast her, it is not all my grief,
And yet it may be said I loved her dearly;
That she hath thee is of my wailing chief,
A loss in love that touches me more nearly.
Loving offenders, thus I will excuse ye:
Thou dost love her because thou know'st I love her,
And for my sake even so doth she abuse me,
Suff'ring my friend for my sake to approve her.
If I lose thee, my loss is my love's gain,
And, losing her, my friend hath found that loss;
Both find each other, and I lose both twain,
And both for my sake lay on me this cross.
But here's the joy: my friend and I are one,
Sweet flattery! Then she loves but me alone.

'Tis good -- the looking back on Grief- Emily Dickinson

'Tis good -- the looking back on Grief --
To re-endure a Day --
We thought the Mighty Funeral --
Of All Conceived Joy --

To recollect how Busy Grass
Did meddle -- one by one --
Till all the Grief with Summer -- waved
And none could see the stone.

And though the Woe you have Today
Be larger -- As the Sea
Exceeds its Unremembered Drop --
They're Water -- equally --
